Flour Tortilla
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable shortening or oil
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 cup warm water or milk (may add more if needed)
DIRECTIONS
- Sift flour, salt & powder in bowl.
- Cut in shortening, mix with finger tips.
- Add milk or water, working the liquid into the dough until a sticky ball forms.
- Wrap in plastic and let rest at least 30 minutes.
- Divide dough into 8-10 balls (small tortillas) or 6-8 balls (large tortillas), cover again to prevent drying out.
- Lightly dust with flour and roll out dough.
- Heat skillet over high heat for 5 minutes.
- Cook tortillas 30 seconds on each side, or until looks dry. (bubbles are good indication to flip).
- Butter and roll up in damp towel to keep warm.
- Serve.
