Flour Tortilla

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening or oil
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 cup warm water or milk (may add more if needed)
DIRECTIONS
  1. Sift flour, salt & powder in bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening, mix with finger tips.
  3. Add milk or water, working the liquid into the dough until a sticky ball forms.
  4. Wrap in plastic and let rest at least 30 minutes.
  5. Divide dough into 8-10 balls (small tortillas) or 6-8 balls (large tortillas), cover again to prevent drying out.
  6. Lightly dust with flour and roll out dough.
  7. Heat skillet over high heat for 5 minutes.
  8. Cook tortillas 30 seconds on each side, or until looks dry. (bubbles are good indication to flip).
  9. Butter and roll up in damp towel to keep warm.
  10. Serve.
