INGREDIENTS:
- Apples
- Lemon, if desired
- Sugar, if desired
- Cinnamon, if desired
- Nutmeg, if desired
- Water
- Peel and core apples. Cut into chunks and put into kettle or heavy saucepan with a very small amount of water so that it covers about 1/4 of the apples.
- (The apples will release a lot of water and juice so it is best to start with too little water and add more if needed).
- Cover and let simmer until tender and mushy (about 10 to 20 minutes).
- Lemon juice will improve the flavor if the apples are not tart.
- Add sugar and spices according to taste.
